Anthem Colorado Blue Cross and Blue Shield - Lumenos Plans

Anthem Lumenos Plans are consumer-driven health plans that give you more control and information to help maintain and improve your health. The plans utilize Health Savings Accounts (HSAs) and Health Incentive Account (HIA) plans to help control your health care costs while still providing great, comprehensive coverage. These plans include:

The Anthem Lumenos HSA Plans give you the opportunity to put tax-deductible money aside to pay medical expenses, while also saving money on your health insurance. The Lumenos HIA plan is very similar to the HSA plan, but with specific incentives to encourage you to improve and maintain your health. There are two HIA plans to choose from: The basic Health Incentive Account (HIA) Plan and the Health Incentive Account Plus (HIA Plus) Plan. With both plans you can earn money to apply towards eligible medical expenses by participating in the healthy rewards programs. This is money that can be applied towards your yearly deductible if desired. In addition, the HIA Plus plan will allocate up to $1,000 towards your account each year, to be used in the same capacity. Any money not used in either HIA will rollover to the next year and is available to apply towards eligible medical expenses.

Lumenos Health Incentive Account (HIA) Plans

Our Rating:

The Lumenos Health Incentive Account (HIA) Plans are similar to the Lumenos HSA Plans, but include an incentive account to reward healthy behavior. This account (referred to as the HIA) allows you to earn credits through the Anthem rewards program that can be used on covered medical expenses and prescriptions. The Health Incentive Account (HIA) funds are used to offset your deductible expense and rollover into the next calendar year if unused (NOT "use it or lose it" funds).

Some of the activities Anthem provides financial incentives for include:

HIA Plan 1 Deductibles
  • $1,000 single / $2,000 family
  • $2,500 single / $5,000 family
  • $2,500 single / $5,000 family

HIA Plan 1 highlights include:

HIA Plan 2 Deductibles
  • $1,000 single / $2,000 family
  • $2,500 single / $5,000 family

HIA Plan 2 highlights include:

Disadvantages of HIA Plans vs HSA Plans

Because of the additional HIA benefit, the Health Incentive Account Plans are about 10% higher than the Lumenos HSA Plans. Additionally, the HIA plans are not HSA-compatible, meaning you could not open an HSA account and receive any tax-advantages.

Lumenos Health Incentive Account "Plus" Plans

Our Rating:

The Lumenos Health Incentive Account Plus Plans are similar to the Lumenos standard HIA Plans mentioned above, but include an additional annual incentive account allocation of $500 per individual policy or $1,000 per family policy that can be used to help offset your deductible. If unused, these funds also rollover into the next calendar and can be applied to next year's deductible.

Anthem still provides the same financial incentives for as the standard HIA Plans including:

HIA Plus Plan 1 Deductibles
  • $2,5000 single / $5,000 family
  • $5,000 single / $10,000 family
  • $10,000 single / $20,000 family

HIA Plus Plan 1 highlights include:

HIA Plan 2 highlights include:

HIA Plan 2 Deductibles
  • $2,500 single / $5,000 family

Cost of HIA Plus Plan vs. HIA Plan

Because of the additional annual HIA "Plus" benefit, the Health Incentive Account Plus Plans are about 25% higher than the standard HIA Plans. With this significant price difference, the standard HIA plan annual premiums can be more than $500 per indvidual or $1,000 less expensive than the HIA Plus annual premium, which makes the HIA Plus Plan an unwise financial option.
